I’m Dan Salomone, and you’re not.
I recently graduated from Ohio State with a double major in Journalism and Political Science. As each day rolls on without a job, I wonder how long I can hold onto the label of “recent” college grad before it starts getting depressing. Nowadays, you can find me washing my dad’s car or cleaning his pool. But to my chagrin, I still find the time to fire off the occasional resume into the abyss of online job postings.
With 22 years of life experience notched on my belt, I have hinged my world on movies and sports. Everyone has a gift. I like to think mine is writing. So writing a movie about sports would be the logical path my life would take, but pursuing a career in any of the aforementioned categories sparks both my passion and my ability.
So what have I done for my career so far? I have worked as the Campus Consultant for Sports Illustrated at OSU, where I became versed in the marketing world. On the editorial side, I worked at the sports desk of our daily student newspaper, The Lantern. I covered mostly men’s tennis with the occasional UFC fight thrown into the mix.
During my sophomore season, I got use out of the other side of my double major by interning with the Hannah Report, which is Ohio’s daily legislative and government news report. I spent my time running back and forth to the Statehouse scouring the chambers for the latest press release.
I spent my junior season abroad in Australia as part of an internship program in downtown Sydney. I worked at a social justice publication called Just Comment (part of the Edmund Rice Centre). This was one of the most unique experiences of my life because I worked intensely with Aboriginal groups and learned all about their heritage. Respect + Protect. My four months there was also a homecoming for me; I previously lived there for four years when I was younger and still the “Danimal.”
